Your questions, answered.
Can black shelves be painted a light colour?
Yes. Black or dark shelves can be painted a lighter colour. It can take extra preparation, primer and coats for even coverage, but it can be done. We plan the finish around the shelf material and existing coating, and include the colour change in the quote.
Can you paint laminate shelving?
Often, when the laminate is firmly attached and suitable preparation and coatings can be used. Peeling edges or swollen board need attention first. Send close-ups of the surface and damaged areas so we can confirm whether refinishing is a sensible option for your unit.
Do all the shelves need to be removed?
That depends on how the unit is built and the finish being applied. We review fixed and removable shelves and agree on the work method. Before starting, you will know what needs emptying and who handles any removal and reinstallation included in the scope.
Are shelf undersides and backing panels included?
They can be. We list the shelf tops, undersides, edges, backing panels, frames and doors you want finished. Some surfaces are less visible but still affect the final appearance, so we go through the unit together rather than assuming only its front face needs paint.
When can I put books and decorations back?
Wait until the finish is ready for objects to sit on it. Fresh paint may feel dry before it can resist sticking or marks from books and ornaments. We give you timing and care instructions for the coating used so you can reload the shelves with confidence.
Can the shelving and nearby walls be painted together?
Yes. We can quote the built-in and adjoining walls as one project. You can choose matching colours for a continuous look or a contrast for the shelves. Each surface and finish is recorded separately, with protection and access planned for the whole work area.
