Your questions, answered.

Can dark railings and spindles be painted white?

Yes. Sound dark or stained wood can often be prepared and painted a lighter colour. The existing finish may require special primer and additional coats for coverage. We review the surface and include that preparation in the quote.

Can the handrail be a different colour from the spindles?

Yes. We can specify contrasting colours for the rail, spindles, posts, risers or surrounding trim. Each component is listed so the crew knows exactly where each finish belongs. Clear colour boundaries help the finished staircase feel intentional.

Are the steps themselves included?

Only if they are listed in the scope. Treads are walking surfaces and need a finish and access plan appropriate to that use. Painting railings and risers is different from refinishing the stair treads, so we discuss them separately before quoting.

Can we still use the stairs during the work?

Access needs to be planned, especially if the stairs are the only route between floors. We discuss the work sequence and periods when surfaces cannot be touched or walked on. We confirm a workable arrangement with you before starting rather than assuming unrestricted access.

Can painting fix loose railings or damaged steps?

No. Safety and structural repairs must be resolved before the finishing work. We identify visible issues and clarify which minor cosmetic preparation can be included. Loose rails, unstable treads or other significant defects need an appropriate repair arrangement.

When can we clean and handle the new finish normally?

We provide instructions for the coating used and the components painted. Handrails and treads receive more contact than decorative trim, so early use needs care while the finish hardens. We explain the relevant waiting periods before leaving the project.
