Choose a wood-toned or solid-colour finish for suitable timber. Gates, posts and fence panels are agreed in the quote.
See the preparation and scope
A fence frames the garden every day. Staining or painting sound timber can refresh its appearance while allowing you to choose a wood-toned or more uniform finish.
We review the existing coating, the sides you want finished and access around planting and neighbouring property. Your quote makes the lengths, gates, posts and preparation clear.
Panels & boards
Define the fence sections and faces included, along with their preparation needs.
Gates & posts
List gate surfaces, posts and other details that need finishing.

Illustrative examples to help you plan your project.
Faded wood to a warmer tone.
The starting point: The timber looks weathered but you want to keep its grain visible.
What we can do: We assess whether the wood can be prepared for a grain-showing stain and explain how existing colour and weathering affect the result.
A patchy fence to one consistent colour.
The starting point: Old sections and newer boards look different.
What we can do: A suitable solid finish can give a more unified colour. We discuss surface texture and condition, because colour does not hide damaged timber.
Fence, gate and posts finished together.
The starting point: The gate and posts stand out from the rest of the fence.
What we can do: We list each component and the accessible faces to be finished so the project has a clear stopping point.

Share your plansSend photos or arrange a site visit.
Send a few photos of both accessible sides of the fence, gates, posts, old coatings and any damaged boards. Tell us the result you want, or schedule a site visit so we can review the project with you.
We review the condition, talk through your options and prepare a quote that explains the work.

Before you approve the work, we make sure the details are clear:
- Colour: your chosen colours, finishes and where each will be used.
- Scope: preparation, approved repairs and the exact surfaces included.
- Access: gates, planting, furniture and the route to each work area.
- Date: the planned start and how weather changes will be handled.
Ask questions and make any changes before we begin, so we are all working toward the same result.

Your questions, answered.
Can you stain both sides of my fence?
Yes, where access and permission are arranged. We specify one side or both sides in the quote and include the gates and posts you choose. If access requires entering a neighbouring property, that arrangement needs to be confirmed before the crew starts.
Can an old dark fence become a lighter colour?
Yes, with a suitable opaque paint or solid-colour stain on a sound, properly prepared surface. A transparent stain will not hide the old dark colour. We explain the finish options and any additional preparation or coats needed for the change you want.
Should I choose stain or paint?
It depends on the appearance you want and what is already on the wood. Grain-showing stains suit properly prepared timber where the existing coating allows them. A solid finish gives more even colour. We review the fence and explain the compatible choices before you decide.
Can new fence boards be stained immediately?
They need to be ready for the chosen coating. Moisture, treatment and the manufacturer’s preparation requirements matter more than a single waiting period. Tell us when the fence was built and what timber was used so we can plan a suitable finishing date.
Do you replace rotten boards as part of staining?
Replacement is a separate scope decision. We identify deteriorated boards and agree how they will be addressed before coating the fence. The estimate distinguishes finishing from approved repairs or work that needs another trade, so weak wood is not hidden under fresh colour.
What should I move before you arrive?
Clear access along the agreed fence line and let us know about furniture, planters and dense planting. We confirm who moves what before work begins and plan protection for surrounding areas. You do not need to guess how much working space the crew will need.
